Barry Haggarty
A singer with sound

Born and raised in Peterborough, Barry Haggarty is an award-winning guitarist and singer who also owns Haggarty Sound Studio.

Haggarty started playing guitar with Ronnie Hawkins in 1975.

He later joined Bentwood Rocker - a band still performing gigs in Ontario.

Haggarty has co-written a number of songs with fellow Peterborough native, Cyril Rawson, and played sessions in Nashville for Lucille Starr, and a then -up-and-coming young singer Shania Twain.

Haggarty was nominated for three years running, from 1990 to 1992, as Guitar Player of the Year with the Canadian Country Music Association.

In 1991, Barry opened his own recording studio, Haggarty Sound Studio, on Whittington Drive.

More than 100 CDs and cassettes have been released by independent artists, companies and organizations from Haggarty Sound Studio. Haggarty produced more than a dozen of them.

Haggarty, along with Examiner managing editor Ed Arnold, wrote a song for the Hockeyville contest called "Peterborough is Hockeyville" as well as several other hockey related songs such as the Memorial Cup theme song and Hockey Town, and a country song Would Have, Could Have, Should Have that made the top 100 on some radio lists in Canada.

Most recently, Haggarty recorded at Abbey Road Studio in London, England.

The CD is called "Barry Haggarty Unplugged at Abbey Road Studio - If These Walls Could Talk". Haggarty says he's currently writing songs for his next album.
